Treshold to freedom I, II. Jesús Jiménez Earth bricks, wood, stones. Threshold to freedom I, II are two abstract sculptures which born in an organic way through the residency at En Sitio land art proyect in Umécuaro, Michoacan. The earth brick were produced with the help of a local adobe maestro and the artist. Jiménez created a dialogue with the local habitants around the sculptures. For the residents of Umécuaro the sculptures became vestiges of some construction of abobe abandoned mainly by people who emigrate to the United States and do not return. For Jiménez, these not only represented those vestiges, but also represented that abandoned abobe room where he was hostage for 9 days during a kidnapping in the Mountains in Michoacán in 2015. Jiménez reached freedom thanks to the help of one of his captors to escape. The threshold for freedom achieved is now represented in these sculptures. ***** Umbral a la libertad I, II son dos esculturas amorfas concebidas de manera orgánica durante la residencia del “Proyecto en Sitio” en la presa de Umécuaro, Michoacán. Los adobes fueron producidos con ayuda de gente local y el artista. Durante la producción Jiménez entablo un diálogo con los habitantes locales en torno a las esculturas. Para los residentes de Umécuaro las esculturas poco a poco se convirtieron en vestigios de alguna construcción de abobe abandonada principalmente por gente que emigra a los Estados Unidos y no regresa. Para Jiménez estas no sólo representaban esos vestigios, sino que también representaban ese cuarto abandonado de abobe en donde estuvo secuestrado por 9 días en la Sierra de Michoacán en 2015. Jiménez alcanzó la libertad gracias a la ayuda de uno de sus captores para escapar. El umbral a la libertad alcanzada ahora está representada en estas esculturas.
